Beethoven’s famous 9th Symphony echoed in the rafters of a Leicester church on Saturday 17 June, as the DMU Orchestra celebrated their first birthday in impressive style.
Nearly 200 attended Leicester’s Church of St James the Greater, to celebrate the momentous occasion which DMU’s Music Department had been billing as the highlight of their 2016/17 calendar. It didn’t disappoint.
Her Majesty the Queen visited Leicester on Thursday 13 April to attend the Royal Maundy Service at Leicester Cathedral.
An estimated 16,000 people lined the route to welcome her to the city.
Members of the public lined the route from Humberstone Gate West, High Street and Jubilee Square, with the hour-long service broadcast live on giant screens in Jubilee Square and at the Clock Tower.
Students turned a city park into a sea of pink, blue, green and yellow on Friday, spreading peace and love for all at a festival which is creating quite a name for itself at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU).
Prisoners have been inspired by the beauty of live classical music, thanks to a special De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) String Orchestra concert.
The historic performance took place within the walls of Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) Leicester and it is believed to be one of the first concerts of this kind to be performed in the UK.
